Thoughts on Predator 2

(NOTE: The spacing in this particular thing is all mussed up. Not 100% sure why)

Predator 2 sees the predator returning to the jungle to hunt humans. (Though its not the same individual predator that was in the first movie, as that one suicided via an atomic blast). Only this time its the urban jungle - L.A. The predator in this movie doesn't really seem to be looking for a challenge, he mostly seems to stay invisible and cheap-shot dudes. And then do various nasty shit to their bodies, like skin them or remove their skull and spine. There's a scene showing him putting a skull in a collection of skulls he had, but I'm not sure what he did with the human skins. Mostly I think the skin thing is to show how scary he is to other humans.

So while he's not really looking for a challenge, he happens to find a person who he can't get out of his head. And that person is Danny Glover. Basically the predator becomes obsessed with him after he sees Mr. Glover shoot four or five drug dealers really quickly with a shotgun. Must be the mark of a great warrior or something. So the predator starts mulling around Los Angeles killing random various people and learning english phrases such as "Want some candy?" while he waits for the movie to climax so he can finally begin his battle with Glover. And the final battle feels like a third of the movie. In the final act everything is portrayed in real time as Mr. Glover decides he's had enough of that predator doing negative actions and begins to fight him mano-a-mano. And of course he's able to *spoiler* eventually kill the predator with his own circle blade because he's so cynical and world-weary.

A couple of key things: The predator only seems to kill people who are armed, but if you're pregnant that trumps having a gun and he'll let you go after gripping you a bit. Also if you murder a predator without having him self-detonate, other predators will like you and give you some kind of gift. But not something cool like a piece of their technology or anything. For example, Danny Glover got a flintlock pistol. Yeah its old, but its from Earth. What good is that going to do him? "No, bro I really did fight with some alien who's like a man but his face is a crab. See, I have this gun from the Revolutionary War to prove it." The other predators should have let him keep the dead predator's skull and spine, just to be fair.

If a new Predator game is ever made it should be like a Cabela game, only you can be invisible and you hunt men. But only if they're holding weapons.
